Updates

I am slowly reviewing and revising the site…

… the About page is refreshed

… I have added a portfolio page. So far it only shows pictures published on one of the Flickr accounts.

I also take the opportunity to hand out a strong recommendation:
Visit Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen.
At least for seeing the installations of Tomás Saraceno and the grand retrospective of works by Bjørn Nørgaard.
The Café is awesome too.

A look at “Den Frie”, the spring exhibition

During a rainy visit to Copenhagen on my own I decided to jump off the train at Österport station. It’s a great way to approach the central townscape of the city. If one’s lucky the lovely exhibition building “Den Frie” is open as well… this time it was, how awesome!

From the intro to the exhibition (at the website):

“DEN FRIE UDSTILLING – SPRING EXHIBITION 2010
February 27th – March 28th 2010

Saturday the 27th of February the doors opened for Den Frie Udstilling’s Spring Exhibition 2010. Based on the idea of cutting away any surplus and take stock, the exhibition this year differ from last years exhibition, by having no overall concept. The exhibition is a serious and honest presentation of the potential of the artist union, and is carried by the quality of the members works without a common theme or other guiding principles. The only common focal point is, that the artists in the exhibition presents newly produced works, and that the artists of the union have not invited guest exhibitors. The Spring Exhibition will show what Den Frie Udstilling is, and what it is capable of today.

With The Spring Exhibition, Den Frie Udstilling intend to reflect on the artist union and the future of the artistic community. For the idea of unions and the community to be relevant in the 21st century, it is necessary to re-think what a community is, and how the union can maintain the tradition and simultaneously renew itself from the inside. Den Frie Udstilling therefore welcome the Spring Exhibition 2010 as an oppor-tunity to explore and investigate the possibilities of the union.

Participating artists:
Martin Erik Andersen, Niels Andersen, Thomas Bang, Jesper Christiansen, Torben Ebbesen, Niels Guttormsen, Signe Guttormsen, Hein Heinsen, Peter Holst Henckel, Jytte Høy, Per Bak Jensen, Elsebeth Jørgensen, Sophia Kalkau, Leif Kath, Anders Kirkegaard, Thorbjørn Lausten, Freddie A. Lerche, Kirsten Lockenwitz, Jørgen Michaelsen, Lis Nogel, Bjørn Nørgaard, Kirsten Ortwed, Lars Bent Petersen og Johannes Christoffersen, Finn Reinbothe, Morten Stræde og Margrethe Sørensen”

I enjoyed it. I took pictures (thanks for allowing me).
Afterwards I walked through Copenhagen, had a nice little lunch at “Café Blå Time” and later took off back to Humlebæk from København H.

Here’s a slideshow from the day.

Copenhagen…high five – Glyptoteket!

Feb 19 . 2010

This winter was something else and it continued.
When I arrived in Helsingør all buses were cancelled due to heavy snowing and slippery roads.
The train was operational and I could walk. No problem.

Copenhagen. We walked from the central station to Glyptoteket.

Besides visiting the great collection of Glyptoteket (after which coffee and calories were in demand), we saw the new exhibition High Five. The following are quotes from the press release:

“The artist and writer Erik Steffensen has chosen five masterpieces from the Glyptotek’s collections
Here he presents the art of our collective past and surrounds them with his own, new works.”

“The five selected works are world art for everyday consumption, something for which the Glyptotek is renowned. “High Five” is Erik Steffensen reaching out his hand to the Glyptotek, world art and the body as such. Do not be deceived by the jovial tone of the title: Steffensen’s respect for these forerunners is clear when he unleashes dream, drinking, death, drapery and deformation in the exhibition rooms.” says Flemming Friborg, Director of the Glyptotek.”

Quite an exciting presentation it was and of course well worth a vist. The following pictures are press pictures made available by Glyptoteket. They show well the mood of the exhibition:

The painting is by Paul Gaugin (1880). The sculpture is by Louise Borgeouis (1994). Both from the collection at Glyptoteket.

The following five pictures are some little impressions from the museum, shot by me, posted on flickr.

After this we walked to ‘Den sorte Diamant’.

Fotoutställning: Henrik Saxgren på Den Sorte Diamant

2009-10-12

Naturligtvis även i “förfallet”.
